TheMetagrobogrolation.。We are delighted to share an exclusive interview withrainer popp.
MTG：Rainer, it is a pleasure to finally meet and discuss your拼图设计过程。
I had a small collection of padlocks and was very fond of all kinds of secret mechanisms.rainer popp.
Rainer:As a child, many things fascinated me. I think this is quite normal for many children. Among other things, I had a small collection of padlocks and was very fond of all kinds of secret mechanisms. Children’s stories like “The Five Friends” and “Three?” did the rest. However, discovering secret mechanisms in the real world was more of an exception. Realistically, the rate went to zero.
Peter was sure if I designed a trick lock, it would sell!rainer popp.
他showed me all the locks and had a story ready for every single piece. His name:Friedhelm.“彼得”由Knorre。
Some years later, Peter and I were having a glass of wine and discussing modern trick locks. Peter was sure if I designed a trick lock, it would sell. From this conversation, I started my initial designs of the ‘T1’. The objective of which, was to create a lock without a key, with no combination lock, that nobody could get open.
MTG：T.hat’s a fantastic story. You have a lot of experience now developing puzzle locks. With this experience and the knowledge you have gained over the last decade, what do you feel are the essential ingredients of a good mechanical puzzle?
Rainer:实际上，Peter Hajektold me about it. I first met Peter at the欧洲锁定器2008年在伦敦会议。
- 这trick is to develop a ‘Popplock'或在一定时间内可解决的拼图。
- A puzzle should guide you through the solving process and give you feedback if you made a progress. (The “Aha” moment).
这trick is to develop a puzzle that is solvable in a certain amount of time. A puzzle should guide you through the solving process and give you feedback if you made a progress. (这“Aha” moment）。
All humans, especially adults, tend to think in certain patterns. If you manage to trap a puzzler in a certain pattern it can be very difficult for him/or her to find a solution. If the solution is found (and he/or she is a “puzzler”) they will have a smile on their face: A designer has got you! One fine example of a puzzle like this would be a box that won’t open at the side of the handle, but rather on the side of the hinges.
